Job title: Schemes Underwriter - PI
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 DOE
Location: Manchester
Purpose of role
*Lawes Consulting is currently working with a well-regarded insurer who is looking to appoint a Schemes Underwriter to support the continued growth of their Professions Sector portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work across an established panel of scheme partners, delivering high-quality underwriting and broker service while contributing to wider underwriting strategy and portfolio development.
Responsibilities
*Underwrite and manage schemes business, including referrals and more complex risks
*Deliver excellent service to scheme partner brokers and manage key relationships
*Support the profitable growth of the schemes portfolio alongside the Sector Lead
*Challenge existing approaches and contribute to growth and portfolio strategies
*Stay up to date with emerging risks and market developments within the Professions Sector
*Take ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions within your remit
Experience
*Previous underwriting experience in a similar PI role
*Confident decision-maker in complex or challenging underwriting scenarios
*Strong relationship management, influencing, and negotiation skills
*Dip CII qualified or working towards, ideally
*Comfortable making underwriting recommendations outside of authority (or keen to develop)
*Keen to develop specialist expertise within a professional lines environment
*Open-minded, commercial, and comfortable with innovation and informed risk-taking
