The Role

As a Trading Underwriter within the Property & Liability team, you will play a key role in driving profitable growth through strong broker engagement and sound underwriting decisions.

You will manage your own portfolio, underwrite within agreed authority, and work closely with internal teams to deliver sustainable outcomes for customers and brokers alike.

This is a broker-facing role offering real autonomy, visibility and long-term development within a highly respected underwriting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Underwrite new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments within agreed authority and underwriting guidelines

Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders

Trade profitably across Property & Liability risks, balancing growth and risk appetite

Assess, price and negotiate risks using sound underwriting judgement and data-driven insight

Provide technical input and support on more complex cases where required

Manage and develop your own portfolio to support branch and regional performance

Ensure all underwriting activity is compliant with FCA regulations and internal governance

Collaborate with wider underwriting, claims and operations teams to deliver excellent customer outcomes

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience underwriting Property & Liability risks

Strong broker-facing and relationship management capability

Confident decision-maker with a commercial mindset

Ability to assess risk, interpret data and apply underwriting judgement effectively

Strong organisation and time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities

Good understanding of FCA regulations and compliance requirements

Experience working within a large or structured insurance environment is desirable
