OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tool Maker with a strong aerospace manufacturing background to join our precision engineering team in Rochford. This role is ideal for a highly skilled individual with exceptional attention to detail, capable of working to extremely tight tolerances and producing high-quality tooling for aerospace and high-spec environments.
The successful candidate will be a time-served Toolmaker or Precision Grinder with proven experience working with imperial measurements and ultra-fine tolerances.
Key Responsibilities*Manufacture, modify, and maintain high-precision tooling for aerospace and high-integrity applications
*Carry out surface and cylindrical grinding to very tight tolerances
*Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD data
*Accurately measure components using micrometers, gauges, and precision measuring equipment
*Read and work confidently to imperial measurements, down to 0.0002" / 0.0005"
*Ensure all tooling meets strict quality and compliance standards
*Conduct self-inspection and support quality documentation where required
*Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality teams
*Contribute to continuous improvement of tooling processes and methods
Required Skills & Experience*Time-served Toolmaker or equivalent apprenticeship-trained background
*Strong experience in tool making and/or precision grinding
*Background in aerospace, defence, automotive, or similarly high-tolerance industries
Desirable Skills & Experience*Experience with jigs, fixtures, gauges, cutting tools, and form tools
*Exposure to AS9100 or similar aerospace quality standards
*Knowledge of heat treatment processes and material properties
*CNC grinding or toolroom machining experience
*Able to read a micrometer to 0.0002/0.0005 (imperial measurement) due to the tight tolerances required.
