Job Description:
Let’s be clear from the off, this is a proper payroll role.
Weekly payroll, with real deadlines, and real people relying on you to get it right.
If payroll is your comfort zone and accuracy under pressure is something you’re good at, then keep reading.
You’ll be joining a busy, project-led business operating across the UK and Europe. Things move quickly, seasons get intense, and payroll is a critical cog in the machine.
The job:
You’ll own the end-to-end process for a large weekly payroll, working closely with HR and the wider team to make sure everyone is paid correctly and on time.
Your day-to-day will include:
*Monitoring the wages mailbox and responding promptly to payroll & HR queries
*Collating daily working hours submitted by employees
*Cross-checking hours against vehicle tracking software (accuracy matters here)
*Processing weekly payroll for up to 160 employees, depending on the season
*Using Sage 50 Payroll and Sage 50 Accounts
*Processing SSP, SMP, SPP, holiday pay, expenses, deductions, pensions and P45s
*Setting up new starters on Sage 50 Payroll
*Uploading project wage data into Sage Accounts
*Completing payroll year-end procedures
*Uploading and processing employee expenses
*Liaising with employees daily to resolve payroll issues quickly and calmly
*Conducting staff inductions and issuing contracts
*Supporting visa applications for overseas workers
*Keeping live spreadsheets accurate and up to date
*Helping with wider HR admin when needed
What they’re looking for:
You don’t need 10 years’ experience. You do need to know what you’re doing.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
*1-2 years’ payroll processing experience
*Strong numeracy skills and exceptional attention to detail
*The ability to prioritise and stay calm under pressure
*Confidence dealing with payroll queries face-to-face and via email
*Experience with Sage 50 Payroll (a big plus, not a deal-breaker)
*A proactive, can-do attitude
What’s in it for you?
*£30,000 salary
*21 days annual leave (rising with service) + bank holidays
*Casual dress code
*On-site parking
*Flexibility where required
