Executive Governance Officer
Location: Chelmsford, Essex (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-time
We are partnering with an exceptional client to recruit an Executive Governance Officer who will provide dedicated and high-level governance support to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). This is a pivotal role, ensuring the smooth operation of key governance committees and maintaining full compliance with governance standards. You will play a key part in enabling the COO to deliver strong strategic leadership and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Strategic Support
*Serve as the main governance contact for the COO, ensuring all governance activity aligns with organisational strategic priorities.
*Provide expert governance advice and guidance to the COO and the Secretary.
*Identify opportunities to enhance, streamline, and modernise governance processes.
Committee Management
*Prepare agendas, Chair’s notes, briefing papers, reports, and full governance documentation for committees such as:
*Finance Executive
*Audit & Risk Committee
*Property Committee

*Oversee the quality, timeliness, and consistency of committee papers prepared by other contributors.
*Coordinate meeting schedules, produce agendas, brief Chairs, and take accurate, professional minutes.
*Ensure timely circulation of meeting papers and track actions through to completion.
Compliance & Risk
*Maintain governance records in line with diocesan policies and statutory requirements.
*Monitor compliance with governance policies, frameworks, and regulatory obligations.
*Support organisational risk management, including maintaining risk registers and compiling compliance reports.
Insurance & Reporting
*Lead the annual insurance renewal process and maintain productive relationships with insurers, ensuring all policies remain compliant.
*Produce governance reports, committee updates, and dashboard reporting for the COO and senior leadership.
Skills & Qualifications
*Exceptionally organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
*Proficient in Microsoft platforms, including Excel and other digital tools.
*Capable of working independently and exercising sound judgement.
*Committed to supporting the mission and ministry of the Church of England.
