Student Welfare Officer (Term-Time) - Canterbury
Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them thrive in school life? A welcoming secondary school in Canterbury is looking for a dedicated Student Welfare Officer to join their pastoral team.
Role Overview
As a Student Welfare Officer, you’ll be a key part of the school’s support structure, helping to ensure a safe, calm, and supportive environment where students feel understood, valued and able to make positive choices. You’ll work closely with students, staff and families to provide timely support, respond to welfare concerns and contribute to the day-to-day wellbeing of the school community.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide a visible, approachable presence at student reception and around the school during the day.
*Offer support and guidance to students with wellbeing, behaviour and attendance concerns.
*Work collaboratively with pastoral and teaching teams to promote positive student behaviour and engagement.
*Help maintain a calm and safe school environment, including participation in duty rotas before, during and after school.
*Support with administrative tasks, record keeping and safeguarding referrals as required.
About You
*You’ll be calm, confident and personable, with the ability to build strong relationships with young people and colleagues.
*Strong communication skills and a positive, proactive approach.
*Experience working with children or in a pastoral/welfare setting is desirable.
*A willingness to undergo training for first aid or other relevant skills.
*Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in line with statutory guidance.
Contract & Salary
*Contract: Term-time plus 5 inset days
*Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
*Salary: £26,262 - £27,713 pro rata per year (subject to experience and qualifications) Actual salary up to £23,000
