Principal Electrical Engineer
Location: London & surrounding areas across Southeast
Salary: Excellent, market-leading package
An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead and deliver complex projects within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The Role
At Principal level, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects within agreed time, quality, and budget constraints. You will act as a technical lead, working closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to deliver high-quality electrical and electronic design solutions. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and supporting business growth through long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead electrical design delivery, including design calculations and peer reviews
*Contribute across all RIBA design stages
*Take responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work
*Act as technical design lead and mentor within an established team
*Delegate and manage work packages, providing guidance and support
*Produce detailed design deliverables (drawings, schedules, specifications, reports)
*Produce due diligence reports and feasibility studies
*Carry out technical surveys of existing M&E services infrastructure
*Act as lead representative at project meetings and workshops
*Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
*Monitor contractors and oversee construction activities
*Review and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submissions
*Respond to RFIs from contractors and tenderers
*Witness and review tests and mock-ups (on and off site)
*Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists
*Build long-term client relationships with a focus on repeat business
Qualifications & Experience
*Minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services
*8-10+ years’ industry experience
*Membership of CIBSE and/or IET
*Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership
Essential Skills
*Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and UK/EU/IEC regulations
*Proven ability to lead, mentor and manage engineering teams
*Strong understanding of contract administration, procurement and conditions of appointment
*Ability to contribute to fee proposals with an understanding of resource planning
*Confident presenting and defending designs to clients and design teams
