Mechanical Design Engineer – WaterLocation: Manchester
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum
Type: Permanent
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Manchester-based water engineering team. You will be responsible for producing high-quality mechanical design solutions across a range of regulated water industry projects, from outline through to detailed design.
The role offers the opportunity to work across both clean water and wastewater schemes, supporting multi-disciplinary project teams and contributing to technically complex infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities*Produce mechanical design deliverables that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
*Prepare mechanical design calculations, drawings, investigations, reports, and specifications
*Ensure designs comply with relevant technical, professional, and group standards
*Direct, support, and develop CAD technicians
*Prepare scopes of work for subcontract M&E design teams and review their outputs
*Liaise with equipment suppliers and manufacturers, prepare technical specifications, and review tender submissions
*Manage and record design changes in line with formal processes and procedures
*Estimate design hours and support project planning activities
*Attend and present at design reviews, project meetings, and client presentations
Required Qualifications & Experience*Minimum 5 years’ mechanical design experience within the UK regulated water industry
*Degree, HND, or equivalent experience (including progression from Technician level)
*Strong IT skills and experience using engineering design tools
*Registered with a relevant professional body and working towards Chartership
Preferred Qualifications & Experience*Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership)
*Experience in hydraulic design
*Experience delivering UMON schemes
*Experience across clean water and wastewater, infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects
*Awareness of construction methods, materials, and buildability
*Strong knowledge of engineering drawing practices
