Procurement Team Leader
Location: Birchwood, Warrington (3 days per week office attendance)
35 hours per week
Full time permanent role We are supporting a growing organisation in the search for a Procurement Team Leader with strong experience in building materials procurement and a proven track record in leadership and people development.
This is an excellent opportunity for a driven procurement professional who enjoys leading teams, managing supplier relationships, and delivering impactful commercial results.
The Role
As a Procurement Team Leader, you will oversee a team of Buyers, guiding them through best-practice procurement activity and category management. You’ll take ownership of the building materials category, lead sourcing activity, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure frameworks and contracts deliver maximum value.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, enjoys motivating others, and can confidently shape procurement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
*Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and support to Procurement Co-ordinators
*Allocate work, monitor performance and ensure consistent quality
*Create a positive team culture focused on continuous learning
*Mentor team members to develop skills and confidence
Procurement Delivery
*Oversee end-to-end sourcing projects
*Support internal customers in defining specifications and requirements
*Manage supplier negotiations, pricing, contracts, and disputes
*Monitor and optimise framework and contract performance
Stakeholder & Supplier Management
*Build strong relationships across the sector and other departments
*Influence stakeholders with confidence and clarity
*Ensure value for money and risk-managed solutions across building categories
About You
You will excel in this role if you are a confident, people-focused leader with a hands-on approach and strong commercial acumen.
You bring:
*Proven experience buying building materials, construction products or working in a merchant/contracting environment - desirable
*Experience leading, supervising or mentoring a procurement or buying team
*Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills
*Excellent communication, organisation and influencing capability
*Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Lookups, VBA/Macros preferred)
*The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, varied environment
*Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
*Experience of public sector procurement
*Knowledge of Dynamic Purchasing Systems or e-tendering platforms
*CIPS Level 4 or relevant degree
