Primary School Teacher (Mainstream)
LocationSittingbourne, Kent
Responsible toHeadteacher / Deputy Headteacher
Main Purpose of the RoleTo plan, deliver and assess high-quality teaching and learning that enables all pupils to make good progress, in line with the National Curriculum and the school’s policies, values and ethos.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning*Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of all pupils
*Teach in accordance with the National Curriculum and Early Years/Foundation Stage (if applicable)
*Set high expectations for pupil behaviour, learning and achievement
*Use a range of teaching strategies to support pupils of differing abilities, including SEND and EAL pupils
*Create a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment
Assessment & Progress*Assess, record and report on pupils’ attainment and progress
*Use assessment data to inform planning and target setting
*Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support learning and development
*Contribute to statutory assessments (e.g. SATs, phonics screening, EYFS profile where relevant)
Behaviour & Safeguarding*Maintain good order and discipline in line with the school’s behaviour policy
*Promote positive behaviour and attitudes to learning
*Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, following school and Kent safeguarding procedures
Professional Responsibilities*Work collaboratively with colleagues, teaching assistants and external professionals
*Communicate effectively with parents/carers about pupils’ progress and wellbeing
*Participate in staff meetings, training and professional development
*Contribute to the wider life of the school, including clubs, trips and events
*Uphold school policies, including equal opportunities, health and safety, and safeguarding
Person SpecificationEssential*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
*Experience of teaching in a primary school setting (or strong ECT training)
*Good knowledge of the National Curriculum
*Strong classroom management skills
*Commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding
*Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable*Experience teaching in a mainstream primary school
*Experience supporting pupils with SEND
*Knowledge of assessment frameworks used in primary schools
*Willingness to lead or contribute to a subject area
