Demand Planning Manager
Manchester – Hybrid Working

NJR Recruitment are currently working with a well-established Wholesaler, who are now seeking an experience Demand Planning Manager to join their team in Manchester.

Role Purpose:
The Demand Planning Manager is responsible for creating accurate, timely demand forecasts and purchase planning, and redefining processes that support business growth. Working closely with Category Managers developing long-term category plans and with the Operations teams to ensure replenishment meets availability demand. This role ensures the right products are available at the right time to meet customer needs while optimising inventory and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Long-Term Planning
*Build and continuously review reordering mechanisms for replenishment of own label import ranges.
*In conjunction with the Category Managers/Demand Planner develop long term (3 years+) category level plans.
*Develop rolling a 3-year category/model sales plan (units, gross/net revenue). Analyse plans versus OGSP targets, identify gaps and issues.
*Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities; recommend corrective actions.
*Support strategic range reviews, including in-season range rationalisation and product drop decisions
Sales Forecasting & Analysis
*Alongside the Head of Product (Commercial) produce an 18-month sku-level sales forecast using market data, sales input, and OGSP.
*Create ad hoc long-term project forecasts when required.
*Track and report forecast movements versus plan/target, highlighting key drivers.
Inventory Management
*Control Category/Business Open to Buy and highlight any potential issues to the business.
*Identify excess/redundant inventory and ensure action plans are in place to resolve.
*Manage branch inventory levels to support agreed plans (availability and stock turn)
Replenishment & Product Planning
*Develop 12–18-month purchase forecast by sku ensuring production and inventory targets met.
*Ensure production requirements are accurately translated from demand plans to meet service levels and inventory targets.
*Manage regular maintenance of replenishment parameters of ERP system in line with sales demand movements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
*Serve as the key liaison between Sales, Category Management, Operations, and Finance to align demand plans with commercial objectives.
*Present forecast insights and planning updates to senior stakeholders
*Partner with Marketing and Product Development to incorporate promotional activity, new launches, and product lifecycle changes into demand plans.
*Leading and mentoring a team of demand planners or analysts, fostering a collaborative environment.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
*Significant demand planning/supply chain planning experience, ideally within consumer goods, seasonal products, or FMCG.
*Experience with implementation and maintenance of Microsoft Navision/Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP system or similar.
*Advanced analytical Power BI and Excel skills; experience with forecasting/demand planning tools.
*Excellent communication and influencing skills across multiple levels.
*Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with seasonal peaks.
*Proven Track record in driving demand, optimising sales and managing gross margin.
*Proficiency in statistical analysis and forecasting methodologies, along with strong problem-solving abilities.
*Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
*Collaborative team player and effective influencer.
*Strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability.
*Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
*Strong understanding of inventory management principles and techniques.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective cross-departmental collaboration and stakeholder management.
