Head of Shipping

**Candidates will be experienced in a regulated industry – Food, Ingredients, Pharma, etc – would suit a Shipping Manager or Head of Shipping**
Our client is a leading supplier of ingredients across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. They place a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and first-class logistics.
Role Purpose
The Shipping Manager has end-to-end accountability for all shipping activity the company, ensuring shipments move efficiently, costs are controlled, risks are identified early, and data is accurate first time.
The successful candidate will:
*Take full end-to-end ownership of Shipping activity
*Deliver right-first-time GRNs, valuations and shipment data
*Prevent avoidable detention/demurrage through proactive control
*Embed SOPs, controls and checklists that reduce rework and manual checking
*Ensure stability during leave and peak periods
*Significantly reduce routine escalation into Finance, Logistics and Directors
*Act as a confident decision-maker within defined authority
*Own the Shipping Function with all information on shipments, arrivals, delays communicated to the business in a timely manner.
Technical & Sector Requirements (Essential)
*International freight (sea, road, air as relevant)
*Shipping of raw ingredients (food / feed / nutraceuticals or similar)
*Health certificates and supporting documentation
*Customs processes, valuation, post-clearance amendments
*GRNs and downstream financial/logistics impact
*Working effectively with Finance and Logistics in a controlled manner
*Having full control over shipments and keeping the business informed of dates as a matter of course.
The candidate must be able to:
*Monitor global events (port congestion, regulatory changes, freight markets)
*Translate these into clear business implications for the business.
*Proactively identify risks and alternative options
*Communicate succinctly and credibly to senior management
