Practice-Based Accountant – Stevenage (Office Based)

About the Role
A well-established accountancy practice in Stevenage is seeking an experienced and confident Accountant to join their growing team. This is a hands-on role supporting a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a busy practice environment and enjoy building strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their main point of contact
*Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
*Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, and VAT submissions
*Handle bookkeeping and management accounts as required
*Support clients with queries around accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
*Assist with payroll processing when needed
*Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance
*Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and HMRC regulations
*Contribute to process improvements and support the wider practice team
Skills & Experience Required
*Previous experience working within an accountancy practice (essential)
*ACCA/ACA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience
*Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements
*Confident preparing accounts from incomplete records
*Proficient with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
*Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
*A proactive mindset and willingness to support colleagues
