This is more than a reporting role - you’ll build and develop the finance function, partner with senior leadership, and play a key role in driving business growth across multiple projects.

The RoleAs Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the company’s financial operations and reporting, providing high-quality insight to the leadership team and stakeholders. You’ll lead a transactional finance team, strengthen controls and systems, and support strategic decision-making across the business.
You’ll be deeply involved in:
*Managing the full finance function and day-to-day operations
*Driving process improvements and system implementations
*Supporting project costing, margin analysis, and performance reporting
*Partnering with department heads and project managers to ensure financial discipline and profitability
This is a highly visible role with genuine scope for progression.
Key Responsibilities*Lead and manage the transactional finance team (sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, cash posting, and general ledger)
*Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
*Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
*Develop and improve financial controls, processes, and accounting policies
*Prepare consolidated statutory accounts and management reporting packs
*Manage VAT, PAYE, corporation tax, and statutory compliance
*Liaise with auditors and prepare audit packs
*Project manage finance system and process change initiatives
*Work closely with budget holders to build and manage departmental budgets
*Produce weekly performance reports (cash flow, debtors, creditors, invoicing, and collections)
*Implement and review weekly project costing and margin reports with project managers
*Track project applications, valuations, and payment certificates
*Liaise with external payroll providers (with potential to bring payroll in-house)
*Ensure compliance with all financial systems, procedures, and regulations
*Support the MD and CFO with ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives
About YouYou’ll be a qualified accountant with strong commercial instincts and experience in a project-based or construction environment. You enjoy improving systems, leading teams, and getting close to the operational side of the business.
You’ll bring:
*Fully qualified accountant status (ACCA / CIMA / ACA / CA)
*Experience in construction or a related industry
*Strong knowledge of Xero or similar accounting software
*Understanding of payment applications and project accounting
*Proven experience managing teams and system implementations
*Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
*High commercial awareness and ambition to progress to Finance Director level
