Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Mentor to work with a secondary-aged pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at our client autism specialist school in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.
About the Role
As a 1:1 Support Mentor, you will work closely with one secondary-aged pupil, providing consistent, personalised support throughout the school day. Your role will involve:
*Building a trusting, positive relationship that helps the pupil feel safe, understood, and motivated.
*Supporting the pupil to regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and develop resilience.
*Encouraging engagement in lessons by breaking down tasks, offering reassurance, and promoting independence.
*Using restorative, trauma-informed, and proactive strategies to help the pupil navigate challenges.
*Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to ensure the pupil receives the right support.
*Helping the pupil develop social skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the school community.
What We’re Looking For
*A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
*Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young people.
*GCSE English & Maths (grade C/level 4 or above).
*Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
*Understanding of behaviour as communication and a willingness to use positive, relationship-based approaches.
*Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.
*Experience in education, youth work, or care is beneficial, but passion and commitment are just as important.
Role Details
*Hours: Mon-Tue: 08:30-16:30 Wed-Thu: 08:30-16:00 Fri: 08:30-15:00
*Contract: Term-time only / Temp-to-Perm
*Pay: From £14 per hour
*Location: Lyndhurst, Hampshire
