Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Chemist to join our growing R&D team in Spalding. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of natural product research, focusing on the extraction, purification and characterisation of functional molecules from terrestrial and marine plant sources using supercritical CO technology at both laboratory and pilot plant scale.
The Role
You will be involved in innovative research using advanced processing and analytical techniques, contributing to the development of sustainable, high-value bioscience products.
Key responsibilities include:
*Planning and managing research projects to meet deliverables and timelines
*Carrying out laboratory research and analysis as part of the R&D team
*Presenting research findings through written reports and oral presentations
*Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
*Ensuring compliance with company policies and health & safety regulations
Technical Environment
You will work with a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, including:
*Supercritical CO extraction
*Distillation, crystallisation and derivatisation
*GC-MS, LC-MS-QQQ, HPLC-UV, GC-FID
*Access to NMR and advanced spectral techniques via university collaborations
About You
Essential:
*Strong interest in chemistry/biochemistry with a passion for learning new techniques
*PhD or Science degree in a relevant discipline
*Experience in natural product extraction and analysis
*Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
*Strong organisational and time-management abilities
*Clear written and spoken English communication skills
*Full right to work in the UK (enhanced DBS checks required)
*Full UK driving licence (travel between sites in Spalding required)
Desirable:
*Experience in cosmetic ingredients, pharmaceuticals or fine chemicals
*Experience with GC-MS and LC-MS-QQQ data interpretation
*Knowledge of green chemistry and sustainable processing
*Process experience in relevant techniques (training provided)
NOTE: due to the location of the facility it is essential that you have access to your own transport as there are no public transport links.
