Job Description:
Credit Controller | City of London | £30K - £40K

A leading London-based professional services business is seeking a Credit Controller to strengthen its financial operations and take ownership of a high-value client portfolio.
Reporting into senior finance leadership and working alongside operational and client-facing colleagues, you’ll drive recovery outcomes, reduce aged exposure, and champion smarter ways of working.

What you’ll be doing

As Credit Controller, you’ll manage the full collections cycle for a designated book of accounts, applying intelligent recovery tactics and maintaining rigorous standards of accuracy and compliance.
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
*Driving cash collection activity using targeted approaches that balance speed of recovery with client relationship quality
*Reducing overdue balances and managing exposure risk, with a particular focus on accounts aged beyond 90 days
*Partnering with internal finance colleagues to reconcile payments, resolve discrepancies, and ensure ledger integrity
*Acting as the primary contact for partners and client teams on all matters relating to outstanding debt and payment terms
*Hosting regular progress reviews with senior fee earners to discuss portfolio performance, identify barriers, and agree action plans
*Maintaining comprehensive records of all collection activity to support reporting, audit, and decision-making
*Ensuring all recovery efforts are conducted in line with internal policy, agreed thresholds, and escalation frameworks
*Identifying and escalating complex or high-risk cases where senior intervention or legal action may be required
*Contributing to wider finance projects focused on system enhancements, automation, and process redesign
*Feeding into strategic discussions around credit risk management, working capital optimisation, and debtor day reduction

What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced credit professional who combines technical competence with strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to challenge and influence at all levels.
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
*A solid background in credit control or collections, ideally within a professional services or client-led environment in London
*The ability to manage competing priorities across a varied portfolio while maintaining focus on outcomes and accuracy
*Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience engaging constructively with senior stakeholders and clients
*A solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving, with the judgment to know when to escalate and when to resolve independently
*Confidence using finance systems and tools to track performance, manage workflows, and extract insight
*A proactive mindset and a genuine interest in improving processes, adopting technology, and driving better business outcomes
*Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of data quality and compliance

Experience working in the professional accountancy industry or a similarly complex, people-driven business would be advantageous.
