Job Description:
Senior Credit Controller – 12 Month Contract
York area
Up to £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hybrid working – up to 2 days from home
Are you a confident, experienced Credit Controller who enjoys ownership of a busy ledger and building solid working relationships across a business?
Looking for a 12-month contract where you can genuinely add value, be trusted to do your job properly, and work with people who know their stuff (and are actually nice to work with)?
This established and growing organisation is looking for a Senior Credit Controller to join its finance team on a fixed-term basis. The business is going through an exciting period of change and development, making this a great time to come in, make an impact, and gain exposure to a varied and complex credit environment.
You’ll be working closely with a supportive Credit Control Manager and wider stakeholders across the business, playing a key role in managing risk, improving processes, and keeping things running smoothly during a period of transition.
This is a role with real substance, not just chasing invoices, but understanding the bigger picture, supporting teams across multiple sites, and helping shape best practice.
What’s in it for you:
*Up to £35,000 per annum (DOE)
*12-month contract with a strong handover and support
*Hybrid working (up to 3 days from home)
*33 days holiday including bank holidays
*Free onsite parking
*Discounted onsite food options
*Supportive, down-to-earth team culture
*Easily commutable from York, Leeds, Harrogate and surrounding areas
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
*Managing and overseeing a large and varied customer ledger (in excess of 1000 accounts across multiple locations)
*Building strong working relationships to resolve queries, manage risk, and agree payment plans
*Identifying potential bad debt and escalating risks appropriately
*Chasing payments by phone and email in a professional, customer-focused manner
*Allocating and investigating unallocated cash and completing bank reconciliations
*Producing invoices, statements, and supporting documentation
*Reviewing credit limits and managing held or restricted accounts
*Preparing reports including aged debt analysis, month-end commentary, and ad-hoc reporting
*Acting as a key point of contact for third-party collection partners when required
*Supporting ledger reviews and data cleansing as part of a wider system migration
*Working closely with internal stakeholders across operations, management, and legal/compliance teams
*Supporting the Credit Control Manager with process improvements and wider business objectives
What we’re looking for:
*Proven experience in a Credit Control or Senior Credit Control role
*Confidence managing a high-volume or complex ledger
*Able to start a new role on a short notice period and happy to commit to a 12 month contract
*Strong communication skills, able to deal professionally with a wide range of stakeholders
*A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to challenge when needed
*High attention to detail with solid Excel and system skills
*Comfortable working independently while being a supportive team player
*Well organised, resilient, and able to juggle priorities in a busy environment
This role would suit someone who enjoys structure, responsibility, and being trusted to get on with the job, while still being part of a supportive finance team.
