Whether you have recently left education or are looking for a meaningful career change, this Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to learn while working in a special educational needs (SEN) school. You will gain hands-on experience supporting children with a range of additional needs, while completing a fully funded qualification alongside your role.
Learning is delivered through a combination of in-person and online training and can be completed within your first year at the school. Even better, the cost of the qualification is fully covered by your employer.
About the role:

This Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship is based in a welcoming and supportive primary SEN school in Leeds, which caters for pupils with a range of special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs. The school is seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic apprentice to start in May 2025.
You will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ learning, development and wellbeing, both in and out of the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, tailored to individual needs
*Assisting the class teacher with the planning and delivery of engaging, inclusive lessons
*Supporting pupils with their academic, social, emotional and behavioural development
*Helping to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
*Preparing and adapting learning resources to meet pupils’ needs
*Observing and recording progress, and providing feedback to teachers and parents
*Supporting pupils during transitions, break times and structured activities
*Assisting with extracurricular or therapeutic activities where appropriate
This is an incredibly rewarding role for someone looking to begin a long-term career in SEN education or child development.
The ideal candidate:*Passionate about supporting children with special educational needs
*Patient, empathetic and resilient
*Strong numeracy and literacy skills
*Able to build positive relationships and trust with pupils
*Willing to commit to a minimum of 12 months to complete the apprenticeship
*Not currently enrolled on another government-funded programme
*Available during school holidays to complete 20 hours of online training each half-term
Previous experience with SEN is beneficial but not essential — the right attitude and commitment are key.
