Pay rate: £35.67 per hour via PAYE or £45 per hour via Umbrella
Contract Duration: 3-month contract (possibility of further extensions and the role even going permanent)
Location: Southwark – Hybrid work / 2-3 days in the office
About the Role
OSDC are seeking an experienced planning professional to support enforcement activity within our newly created planning service. The OSDC area contains a significant volume and diversity of enforcement work, making this an exciting and influential role at the centre of a high-profile regeneration programme.
You will investigate alleged breaches of planning control, manage an active enforcement caseload, and take appropriate enforcement action. Your work will play a vital part in delivering a high-quality planning service, maintaining public confidence, and supporting the Mayor’s strategic vision for the Oxford Street district.
What You’ll Be Doing
*Managing a varied and often complex enforcement caseload, including investigating alleged breaches of planning control and preparing enforcement reports and statutory notices.
*Supporting the Head of Development Management and Enforcement, along with Principal Officers, to ensure cases are progressed in line with agreed performance targets.
*Responding to public enquiries about the Corporation’s enforcement processes, timescales and decision-making.
*Providing clear, timely communication to stakeholders, including complainants, councillors and partner organisations, keeping them informed of progress and outcomes.
*Contributing to planning enforcement appeals, assisting in the preparation and presentation of the Corporation’s case across all appeal formats, including written representations, hearings and inquiries.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate:
*A relevant planning qualification and eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
*Strong experience managing your own planning caseload, ideally with specific experience in planning enforcement.
*An understanding of the working environment of a local planning authority.
*A sound understanding of the local, regional and national planning policy context, along with the legislative framework underpinning planning and enforcement activity.
