Production Accountant – Metals EngineeringSalary: £33,000 – £40,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours:
*Monday to Thursday: 08:15 – 16:45
*Friday: 08:00 – 14:00
An established metals engineering business is seeking a Production Accountant to support manufacturing and production activities through accurate financial reporting, job costing, and performance analysis. This role is key in providing cost transparency, improving production efficiency, and supporting operational decision-making across the shop floor and management teams.
About YouYou will be a qualified or part-qualified accountant, or possess strong relevant experience within a manufacturing or metals engineering environment.
Essential experience and skills:
*Background in manufacturing or metals engineering (fabrication, machining, or job shop required )
*Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience
*Strong knowledge of production accounting, job costing, and variance analysis
*Experience with WIP accounting and inventory control
*Understanding of UK GAAP (IFRS knowledge advantageous)
*Experience with ERP/MRP systems
*Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modelling)
*Understanding of labour efficiency, overhead absorption, and production metrics

*Strong communicator, able to explain financial data to non-finance teams
*Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
*Commercially minded with a proactive, problem-solving approach
*Comfortable working cross-functionally with production and engineering teams
*Organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple priorities
*Hands-on and keen to understand shop-floor processes
The RoleYou will be responsible for producing daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, KPIs, and management information. Working closely with production, engineering, and operations teams, you will support job costing, variance analysis, inventory control, and financial performance reporting within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities include:
*Producing accurate production and cost reporting (daily, weekly, and monthly)
*Supporting job costing, standard costing, and variance analysis
*Managing WIP accounting and supporting revenue recognition
*Monitoring inventory control, stock valuation, and material usage
*Supporting month-end close and preparation of management accounts
*Analysing labour efficiency, overhead absorption, and machine utilisation
*Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and cost reduction initiatives
*Providing clear financial insight to non-finance stakeholders on the shop floor
*Supporting continuous improvement across production and reporting processes
