Job Description:
This role will suit someone who has worked as a caretaker/waste operative. It will involve working in domestic properties where tenants are present. Good customer care and a non judgemental demeanour is required.
Main Purpose of the job:
To carry out heavy cleaning and clear rubbish from the homes of service users in Lewisham.
To clear properties of needles and contents for Housing and other appropriate agencies.
To provide general support to service users and their carers as part of a caring team.

Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties:
MAIN DUTIES
1. Clearing floors of rubbish and clutter including clothing, food, bottles, general household rubbish and human waste i.e. urine and excreta.
2. Cleaning all living areas, surfaces, door/frames and paintwork.
3. Carry out preliminary fumigation (for personal safety) with approved chemicals. Report any infestation to Line Manager.
4. Ensure secure and safe storage of property keys.
5. Remove and dispose of household rubbish e.g. unwanted furniture, clothing and equipment as necessary.
6. Be aware of, and report hazards within the home e.g. broken windows/glass, torn linoleum, broken furniture and any electrical or gas appliances.
7. Fumigation and cleaning of properties where decomposed remains have been found.
8. Removal and disposal of bio-hazard waste i.e. urine, excreta, blood, infestation, dead animals and decomposed remains.
9. Removal and disposal of hypodermic needles from properties. Ensure safety equipment and sharps boxes are used at all times.
10. Under supervision from the Line Manager, liaise with internal and external agencies i.e. Housing, Adult social care teams, external housing agencies in relations to service users and their properties.
11. Complete a risk assessment prior to commencing work at each property. Complete a record following the work being completed to log any issues/actions arising from the work.
12. To undertake an assessment of the property based on the information presented on the referral and make a judgement on the scope of the work against the eligibility of the service.
13. Undertake driving duties, ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations.
14. Drive a vehicle containing chemicals and other cleaning materials, ensuring they are stored safely.
15. Ensure all chemical data sheets are read, understood and retained in the vehicle.
16. Maintain correct levels of supplies and equipment for the purpose and safe working.

Aptitude
A basic awareness of vehicle maintenance
Ability to communicate with members of the public
Ability to work in dirty, neglected homes and dispose of hazardous waste safely
