Are you passionate about student well-being and breaking down barriers to learning? We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join a large, supportive Secondary School in Blackpool. This is a high-impact role where you will be the first point of call for students needing emotional, social, or behavioural guidance.
In this role, you aren’t just assisting a teacher; you are mentoring young people, managing attendance, and helping students navigate the challenges of secondary school life.
Key Responsibilities * Student Mentoring: Provide 1:1 and small group support for students struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or social challenges.
* Behaviour Support: Work alongside the pastoral team to implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalate conflicts.
* Attendance Liaison: Identify patterns of persistent absence and work with families to encourage re-engagement with education.
* Crisis Intervention: Act as a safe, calm presence for students during high-stress moments or emotional outbursts.
* Safeguarding: Ensure all student concerns are reported and managed in line with the school’s safeguarding policies.
The Ideal Candidate * Experience: Previous experience in a pastoral role, youth work, or a similar environment (e.g., residential care or coaching) is essential.
* Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with hard-to-reach teenagers, parents, and external agencies.
* Resilience: A thick skin and a calm temperament are vital for success in a busy Blackpool secondary setting.
* Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in youth work, counselling, or social care are a plus, but a proven track record of mentoring is key.
* Safeguarding: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
Why Choose This Role? * Consistent Hours: Enjoy a stable Monday-to-Friday schedule with no weekend or evening work.
* Impactful Work: Directly improve the life chances of young people in the Blackpool community.
* Career Development: Excellent experience for anyone looking to move into School Counselling, Social Work, or Pastoral Leadership.
