Job Description:
The Role: From Residential Care to the Classroom Are you currently working in a Children’s Home, Residential Care, or a Youth Justice setting? Do you have the "managing skills" to lead a group but want a better work-life balance?
We are looking for individuals with childcare experience to join a local secondary school (ages 11-16). You will use your transferable skills specifically your ability to manage challenging behaviour and build quick rapport to lead classrooms and support students who need a strong, consistent role model.
No teaching qualification is required. We value your "real-world" experience in managing young people over traditional academic credentials.
How You Will Use Your Transferable Skills * Conflict Resolution: Taking your experience from high-pressure residential settings to de-escalate classroom disruptions.
* Relationship Building: Using the "connection before correction" approach you’ve honed in childcare to reach disengaged teenagers.
* Classroom Management: Stepping into a room and establishing clear boundaries, authority, and safety skills you’ve mastered in a home or community setting.
* Emotional Intelligence: Spotting the "why" behind a student’s behaviour and helping them regulate their emotions.
Key Responsibilities * Lead the Room: Manage classes (ages 11-16) when a teacher is absent, ensuring students stay on task and the environment remains calm.
* Behaviour Mentoring: Work 1:1 with students who have SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
* Safe-guarding: Utilise your existing knowledge of safeguarding and "Team Teach" (or similar) to keep students safe.
* Be the Bridge: Help students navigate the school day, providing the stability they might be lacking elsewhere.
Requirements * Experience: Previous experience in a Children’s Home, Residential Care, Youth Work, or similar childcare setting is essential.
* The Mindset: You are resilient, thick-skinned, and empathetic. You understand that "challenging" students are often just students facing challenges.
* Communication: Ability to command respect through calm authority, not shouting.
Why Make the Switch? * Consistency: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. No night shifts, no weekend sleep-ins.
* Holiday Pay: Enjoy 13 weeks of school holidays per year.
* Career Growth: This is the perfect stepping stone for those looking to move into Social Work, Educational Psychology, or Teaching.
How to Apply If you’re ready to trade the long shifts for a school career where your childcare experience truly counts, we want to hear from you.
