Job Description:
We are supporting a long-established, London-based professional services firm with a strong reputation in audit, tax and advisory for international clients. As part of their growing China & East Asia Business Desk, they are seeking a Japanese-speaking Audit Assistant Manager with solid UK audit experience.
The Role
You will:
*Lead and manage audit engagements for a portfolio of Japan and wider East Asia–linked clients (including UK subsidiaries of international groups and fast-growing businesses).
*Plan and deliver audits under UK auditing standards, overseeing on-site/remote fieldwork and reviewing work prepared by Seniors and juniors.
*Review financial statements under UK GAAP (and IFRS where applicable) and address complex areas such as revenue, group reporting, going concern and estimates.
*Act as day-to-day contact for Japanese and UK stakeholders, using your Japanese language skills to liaise with overseas parent companies and finance teams.
*Work closely with tax and advisory teams and contribute to refining audit processes within the international/East Asia desk.
Candidate Profile
*Strong external audit background in an accountancy practice or professional services firm.
*Experience with SMEs, owner-managed businesses and/or international groups.
*Solid knowledge of UK GAAP and UK auditing standards (IFRS exposure beneficial).
*Fluent or highly proficient in Japanese (spoken and written); able to explain complex issues clearly to non-UK stakeholders.
*ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
*Organised, detail-focused and comfortable managing multiple engagements in a fast-paced, international environment.
What’s on Offer
*Competitive salary plus study support where relevant and a comprehensive benefits package.
*Hybrid and flexible working within a modern framework designed to balance client needs with work–life integration.
*A genuinely nurturing, collaborative culture with clear career pathways and strong partner/manager support.
*Inclusive, people-focused environment with extensive learning & development, coaching and regular social and networking opportunities.
If you are an experienced UK audit professional who is fluent in Japanese and keen to build a niche in Japan & East Asia–focused work, please contact Baker Thornton for a confidential discussion or submit your CV to be considered
