I am looking for a Band 5 Surgical Nurse for a line of work in Northern Ireland - Both days and nights. 37.5 hours per week.
The post holder will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care across the pre-operative, post-operative, and recovery phases.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care*Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care
*Deliver pre- and post-operative nursing care
*Monitor vital signs and recognise signs of deterioration
*Manage wounds, drains, catheters, and surgical sites
*Administer medications safely, including IV therapy
*Support pain management and recovery pathways
*Maintain accurate clinical documentation
Patient Safety*Escalate concerns using NEWS2 / early warning systems
*Prevent infection through adherence to IPC protocols
*Safely manage deteriorating or complex surgical patients
*Participate in risk assessments and safeguarding
Communication & Teamwork*Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, AHPs, and ward teams
*Provide clear handovers and documentation
*Support patients and families with information and reassurance
Professional Practice*Maintain NMC registration and revalidation
*Participate in training and competency development
*Supervise HCAs and students
*Contribute to audits and quality improvement
