Job Description:
Motor Vehicle Technician
*Location: Sunderland
*Annual salary: £35,000-£41,000
*Contract Type: Fixed-term contract until March (potential to be extended)
*Hours: 37.5 hours per week, shift-based (4 on / 4 off, 12-hour shifts)
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Motor Vehicle Technician to join our client’s fleet maintenance team. This role is crucial for delivering high-quality servicing, diagnostics, and repairs across a varied vehicle fleet up to 7.5 tonnes, ensuring vehicle reliability, safety, and efficient operational support.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Inspect, service, and maintain vehicles to the highest standards, covering both planned and unplanned maintenance.
*Conduct in-depth electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic diagnostics.
*Carry out road tests as required.
*Maintain an up-to-date understanding of current and emerging vehicle technologies.
*Liaise with management regarding ongoing vehicle issues and ensure work is fully resolved.
*Keep work areas clean, organised, and compliant with Health & Safety standards.
*Use computerised fleet management systems to record and update job information accurately.
*Communicate professionally and clearly with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
*Provide support to recovery services, contractors, and other teams when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience working with cars, car-derived vans, passenger service vehicles, and goods vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
*Fully qualified Motor Vehicle Technician (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
*Strong knowledge of motor vehicle electrical and mechanical components.
*Ability to diagnose faults with and without diagnostic equipment.
*Knowledge of vehicle legislation and Health & Safety requirements, including PPE.
Desirable:
*MOT testing certificate.
*Experience with tail-lift systems, LOLER testing, blue-light or specialist vehicle systems.
*Experience with fleet management systems.
*Full UK manual driving licence.
