Job Description:
We are seeking a resilient, adaptable, and confident Cover Supervisor to support a range of secondary schools across Tavistock. In this pivotal role, you will supervise classes during short-term teacher absences, ensuring pupils remain engaged and learning continues effectively. This position is ideal for individuals with strong behaviour-management skills, a calm and professional manner, and the ability to build rapport quickly with students.Key Responsibilities * Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials to classes across Key Stages 3 and 4.
* Manage student behaviour in line with school policies, maintaining a positive, safe learning environment.
* Ensure pupils stay on task, offering support and clarification where needed (teaching is not required).
* Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.
* Keep accurate records of attendance, behaviour, and completed work.
* Adapt quickly to different school settings, year groups, and subject areas as needed.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders.
Person Specification Essential:
* Strong classroom-management skills and confidence working with young people.
* Calm, resilient, and able to think on your feet in fast-paced situations.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Professional, reliable, and able to build positive relationships.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
Desirable:
* Experience working in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, or similar roles.
* Degree or relevant qualifications (not essential).
* Familiarity with Plymouth secondary schools or local communities.
