Job Description:
Are you passionate about sustainability, the environment, and making a real difference in your community? We’re looking for friendly, confident and proactive individuals to join Brent as Recycling Engagement Officers.
In this role, you’ll engage directly with residents at their doorstep to promote the borough’s food waste recycling service. You’ll provide clear information, distribute resources, and encourage behaviour change to help increase recycling participation across targeted areas of Brent.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, speaking with people, and contributing to environmental improvements in the community.
Key Responsibilities*Engage with residents at their doorstep in a positive, friendly and professional manner across designated areas of Brent.
*Clearly explain how the food waste and recycling services work, their environmental benefits, and how residents can get involved.
*Listen to residents’ questions, concerns and feedback, responding appropriately and escalating issues when needed to ensure residents feel supported and well-informed.
*Encourage behaviour change using effective communication and persuasive techniques to promote the correct and consistent use of recycling services.
*Distribute leaflets, food waste caddies and other campaign materials; apply stickers to bins to reinforce key messages.
*Accurately record engagement and interaction data using forms and digital tools.
*Safely transport materials between locations as required.
*Follow safeguarding practices at all times to protect the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults.
*Adhere to the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities, Information Governance, Data Protection, Health & Safety and Emergency Planning policies.
*Provide awareness and assistance regarding council policies when appropriate.
What We’re Looking For*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
*Confident engaging with members of the public face-to-face.
*Ability to remain positive, professional and approachable at all times.
*Good organisational skills with attention to detail for accurate data recording.
*A proactive, self-motivated attitude and willingness to work outdoors.
*Experience in customer service, community engagement or environmental roles is desirable but not essential.
*Team player with the maturity to follow safeguarding and safety procedures.
