Job Description:

Salary: £31,297 – £32,983 per annum (Band G, Spine Points 23–25)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 36.5 hours per week
Location: Birmingham
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and confident Employee Relations Advisor to join our clients People Services team. This is a key advisory role where you will provide expert HR and employee relations guidance across the College, supporting managers and employees on a wide range of people matters.
You will manage your own ER caseload, ensuring advice is legally compliant, pragmatic, and aligned with College policies, while promoting positive people management and staff wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide expert advice on employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance, capability, redundancy, TUPE, and recruitment
*Proactively manage and resolve a varied ER caseload within agreed timescales
*Support and coach managers to build effective, consistent people management practices
*Attend and contribute to weekly case management meetings
*Build strong working relationships with managers, employees, and trade union representatives
*Support absence management, including referrals to Occupational Health and other external services
*Deliver ER training and contribute to HR projects, audits, and service improvements
*Support payroll processes by ensuring accurate and timely submission of salary and absence data
*Maintain accurate records on the HR system, ensuring confidentiality and data protection compliance
About You
You will be a professional and resilient HR practitioner with strong employee relations experience and sound knowledge of employment law.
Essential requirements:
*CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards / willingness to work towards)
*Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing HR and ER advice
*Strong working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice
*Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
*Ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
*Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and HR systems
