Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant
Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Hourly Rate: From £13.68
Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
We are looking for an empathetic, motivated, and resilient Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant to join our team and support young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to SEN, SEMH, medical needs, or while awaiting placement in a specialist school.
This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve personal success through tailored, therapeutic-based learning sessions.
Role Overview
As an Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant, you will support the delivery of 1:1 and small group sessions that help students progress academically, emotionally, and socially. You will work closely with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals to ensure each child receives the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
*Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, valuing their individuality and cultural identity.
*Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a wide range of needs, helping them access learning and regulation activities.
*Assist in planning, preparing, and delivering therapeutic-based learning sessions, tailored to each pupil’s needs and interests.
*Support pupils in working toward their personal goals and celebrate progress, no matter how small.
*Contribute to the wider team to help young people explore life goals and pathways to success.
*Support pupils through transitions, helping them understand and manage barriers to learning and reintegrate into a school environment where appropriate.
*Observe pupils and maintain accurate, detailed records to track progress and inform future planning.
*Maintain a warm, friendly, and professional approach towards pupils, colleagues, families, and external partners, following all safeguarding procedures.
*Attend meetings, reviews, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications
5 GCSEs including Maths and English (grade 4-9) or equivalent
Experience (Essential)
*Forming positive relationships with young people and parent
*Raising the attainment of SEND and/or alternative provision students through positive interventions
*1:1 tuition teaching leading to strong student progress
*Liaising with external agencies to support a young person
*Supporting students with ACEs through a trauma-informed approach
*Ability to form effective working relationship
*Understanding of child-safeguarding issues and successful measures that promote and ensure the safeguarding of children
