Job Description:
If you’re brilliant at the day-to-day mechanics of finance and you don’t want (or need) a 40-hour week this could be a very good fit.
This is a part-time, flexible position, averaging 8-10 hours per week.
The work is front-loaded:
*Around 16-18 hours in the first week of each month
*Lighter, steady work across the rest of the month
So, this works well if you’re:
*A self employed Bookkeeper
*Juggling family or other commitments
*Returning to work
*Studying towards a finance qualification
*Working as a portfolio or freelance finance professional
The job (what you’ll actually be doing):
You’ll run the day-to-day finance function.
That means making sure the numbers are right, the controls are tight, and the information is there when decisions need to be made.
You’ll own the core finance processes end-to-end and play a hands-on role in month-end.
Purchase Ledger & Suppliers
*Own the purchase ledger in Xero
*Process supplier invoices accurately and on time
*Maintain supplier details (including bank verification)
*Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
*Be the first point of contact for supplier queries
*Make sure VAT is treated correctly (every time)
Sales Ledger, Billing & Credit Control
*Own the sales ledger and client accounts in Xero
*Work closely with the wider team to ensure invoices are raised accurately and on time
*Reconcile client accounts and issue statements
*Take responsibility for credit control. This means chasing, managing, and escalating when needed
*Handle invoice-related queries internally and externally
*Ensure VAT is treated correctly on sales transactions
Month-End & Financial Controls
*Complete month-end balance sheet reconciliations, including: *Bank accounts (multiple accounts and currencies)
*Accruals and prepayments
*Control accounts

*Support month-end reporting and variance analysis
*Assist with year-end close and audit prep
Expenses, Cards & Inboxes
*Oversee company debit cards and staff expenses
*Ensure approvals are in place and transactions are posted promptly
*Manage shared finance inboxes with speed and organisation
Process Improvement & Ad-hoc Support
*Spot where things can be better and help make them better
*Improve finance processes, controls and ways of working
*Support ad-hoc finance projects as the business grows
*Be a calm, reliable advocate for good finance practice
What we’re looking for
You don’t need a flashy title. You do need to know what you’re doing.
*AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
*Happy working independently and owning tasks end-to-end
*Detail-focused, persistent, and not afraid to chase things to resolution
*Confident communicator with suppliers, clients and internal teams
*Curious mindset, you like improving how things work, not just keeping them ticking over
