Contract: January 2026 - July 2026
Hours: 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Setting: Specialist Primary SEMH Provision
Age Range: EYFS - Year 4
Class Sizes: Small classes of 5-8 pupils
About the Role A specialist primary SEMH provision in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking a committed and compassionate Behaviour Mentor / Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from January 2026.
You will support pupils from EYFS to Year 4 who present with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them to regulate emotions, develop positive behaviour, and access a mainstream-style curriculum. With small, nurturing class sizes of just 5-8 pupils, this role allows for highly personalised and impactful support.
This position is ideal for experienced Behaviour Support TAs, Youth Workers, or professionals with strong behaviour management experience who are looking to transition into a school-based role.
Key Responsibilities * Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs across EYFS-Year 4

* Developing pupils’ emotional regulation and self-management skills

* Implementing consistent behaviour strategies, routines, and expectations

* Supporting children during periods of dysregulation using calm, trauma-informed approaches

* Providing 1:1 and small-group behavioural and learning support

* Encouraging engagement with a mainstream-style curriculum

* Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

* Implementing behaviour support plans and risk assessments

* Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff

* Promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing, and inclusion

* Upholding safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate You will be calm, patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting children’s emotional and social development. You will be confident working with challenging behaviour and understand that behaviour is a form of communication.
This role would suit candidates with backgrounds as:
* Behaviour Support Teaching Assistants

* SEMH Teaching Assistants

* Youth Workers

* Care or Residential Support Workers

* Sports Coaches with strong behaviour management experience

Essential Requirements * Proven experience supporting children with behavioural needs

* Experience within SEMH, SEN, PRU, alternative provision, or similar settings

* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

* A good understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches

* Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

* Right to work in the UK
