Senior Lawyer (PO6) – Housing & LitigationTemporary Contract | Inside IR35
Location: South East London (Hybrid working)
Start Date: 23 February 2026
End Date: 24 May 2026
Hours: 35 hours per week
Rate:
*PAYE: £26.78 per hour
*Umbrella/Ltd: £33.37 per hour
Ribble Recruitment is supporting a London local authority to appoint an experienced Senior Lawyer (PO6) to cover a temporary gap within a Housing & Litigation legal team.
This is a senior fee-earning role handling a complex caseload and providing high-level legal advice to Members, senior officers, and stakeholders.
The RoleYou will undertake a substantial and complex caseload within Housing & Litigation, acting as a senior member of the legal team. The role includes advocacy, legal supervision, and strategic legal advice on matters with significant policy and service implications.
Key Responsibilities*Manage an extensive caseload of complex Housing and Litigation matters
*Provide high-level legal advice to elected Members, senior managers, and officers
*Represent the authority in courts, tribunals, and inquiries, instructing Counsel where required
*Advise on legal implications of transformation and development projects
*Supervise and mentor junior fee earners and legal support staff
*Allocate work and ensure quality assurance, risk management, and compliance
*Keep abreast of legal developments and promote modern legal practice
*Deliver training, briefings, and guidance to Members and officers
*Deputise for the Assistant Head of Legal Services when required
Essential Skills & Experience*Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
*Significant post-qualification experience in Housing & Litigation within a local authority or similar public sector environment
*Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and competing deadlines
*Experience providing legal supervision and managing staff
*Strong advocacy experience in courts and tribunals
*Excellent communication, drafting, and stakeholder management skills
*Ability to work effectively under pressure in a political environment
