Assembly Technician - Automotive Refuse Equipment
Location: Leyland
I am currently recruiting for an experienced Assembly Technician to join my client’s market-leading automotive manufacturing team in Leyland. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the production of high-quality refuse collection equipment fitted to commercial vehicles used across the UK.
If you have hands-on experience in automotive assembly, mechanical fitting, or vehicle body building, and you take pride in precision workmanship, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
Key Responsibilities Assembly & Installation
*Assemble and install refuse collection systems onto commercial vehicle chassis.
*Fit mechanical components, hydraulic assemblies, and electrical fixtures according to drawings and build specifications.
*Use a range of hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, and impact wrenches to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Quality & Safety
*Carry out inspections and functional tests to ensure all builds meet quality and safety standards.
*Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area.
*Follow all health & safety procedures, including correct PPE use.
Collaboration & Reporting
*Work closely with production supervisors and engineering teams to troubleshoot build issues.
*Report defects, delays, or material shortages promptly.
*Support continuous improvement activities within the workshop.
Required Skills & Experience *Previous experience in automotive assembly, mechanical fitting, or similar production roles.
*Competent using power tools and familiar with fasteners, fixings, and torque settings.
*Ability to read and understand technical drawings and build instructions.
*Must supply own basic hand tools (spanners, sockets, screwdrivers).
*Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality.
*Physically fit and comfortable working on your feet throughout the shift.
Desirable Qualifications *NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Fitting, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
*Forklift or overhead crane certification.
*Experience working with hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
