Our client is looking for a Transport and Operations Health and Safey Manager.
Job Overview
This is a key leadership role responsible for driving continuous improvement in Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) performance. You will ensure robust systems, effective risk management, full regulatory compliance and measurable improvement across all operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
QHSE Strategy & Governance
· Develop, implement and maintain integrated QHSE policies, procedures and standards aligned with current legislation and recognised management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
· Ensure effective document control, version management and practical roll-out across teams
Risk Assessment & Compliance
· Lead driver Point of Work Risk Assessments (PoWRA), QSHE audits, Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and environmental impact assessments
· Maintain accurate risk registers and ensure mitigation actions are closed out
· Manage legal and compliance registers, monitoring regulatory changes and implementing action plans where required
Training & Competency
· Design and deliver inductions, toolbox talks and refresher training
· Track competencies and certifications, ensuring high levels of training compliance
· Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve delivery
Incident & Emergency Management
· Lead investigations into accidents, near misses and environmental incidents using root cause analysis techniques
· Implement corrective and preventive actions and share learning across the business
· Develop, test and maintain Emergency Response Plans and coordinate drills
Audits, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
· Plan and deliver a risk-based audit and inspection programme
· Maintain accurate QHSE records and prepare detailed management and board-level reports
· Champion continuous improvement initiatives, Lean principles and waste reduction
Supplier & Stakeholder Management
· Set and monitor QHSE standards for suppliers and contractors
· Act as the main point of contact for regulators, auditors and clients
· Support sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, energy efficiency and environmental performance tracking
Performance & Budget Management
· Define, track and improve key QHSE performance metrics
· Manage the QHSE budget, prioritising spend based on risk and business impact
Person / Experience Required
· Proven track record of delivering zero serious harm and avoiding regulatory enforcement
· Demonstrated reductions in TRIR/LTIFR and environmental incidents
· Strong audit performance with high CAPA closure and training compliance rates
· Experience leading emergency preparedness and response activities
· Year-on-year improvement in quality and customer-related metrics
· Ability to influence positive safety culture and workforce engagement
