Job Description:
Grass Cutter - Local Authority
*Hourly Pay: £13.69 PAYE
*Location: Local Borough
*Hours: 06:30 to 14:30 (Monday to Thursday) and 06:30 to 14:00 (Friday)
Join our clients dedicated team, at a leading local authority in Barnsley as a Grass Cutter, helping deliver essential council services across the borough. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys outdoor work and operates well within a team environment, ensuring our community spaces are well-maintained and safe.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Operate petrol-powered machinery such as strimmers, pedestrian mowers, and stander mowers for grass cutting and general grounds maintenance activities.
*Drive council vehicles (with or without trailers) and operate machinery or handheld equipment.
*Perform daily checks on vehicles and report any issues.
*Conduct basic repairs on equipment and maintain vehicle security.
*Lock and unlock council buildings as required.
*Monitor fuel levels at remote depots and report when replenishment is needed.
*Interact politely with the public, addressing their concerns and escalating issues to managers as necessary.
*Adhere to schedules, manage new priorities, and use initiative to handle tasks independently when required.
*Demonstrate safe practices and provide guidance to colleagues or trainees.
*Comply with all Health & Safety, Customer Care, and council policies.
*Maintain electronic records and utilize ICT equipment as part of daily operations.
*Contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of the service.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*A valid UK driving licence – Cat B/B+E or C1/C1+E (Essential)
*Experience working alone or in a team (Essential)
*Experience in grounds maintenance (Essential)
*Understanding of Health & Safety in daily work (Essential)
*Good customer service and communication skills (Essential)
*Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and effectively (Essential)
*Capability to understand and act on written, verbal, or electronic instructions (Essential)
*Positive attitude and willingness to help others (Essential)
*Ability to manage your own workload and solve daily problems (Essential)
*Follow safe working practices in line with Health & Safety law (Essential)
