Job Purpose
The IND Network Design Manager will provide leadership and direction to the IND Network Design Team, ensuring an effective Water & Waste Water Network investment programme, efficient delivery of customer requested water network improvements and delivery of frontier performance standards. To champion the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and partners, and support the Network Alliance and Asset Management & Delivery.
The IND Design Manager will also oversee operational budgets and support delivery of capital budgets to agreed limits within their control. The role will also liaise with internal and external stakeholders and regulators and will be expected to promote the vision and direction of United Utilities.
The IND Design Manager will report directly to the IND Programme Delivery Manager and will lead the IND Network Design Team to support delivery of minor capital investment programmes and delivery of customer requested water network improvements for Water& Wastewater Network Operations.
The role will be required to work closely with various departments within Operations as well as our Network Partners to ensure the delivery of the programme to budget and within the required timescales as well as maximising the performance our Water Network.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
*Ensure the safety of the IND Network Design Team, by ensuring all relevant safety standards are met and assist the development of Safety, Health and Improvement plan initiatives to improve United Utilities safety performance.
*Engage our people and partners, by providing an open workplace environment that encourages collaboration and team working.
*To be accountable for the area succession plan, training and development activities of IND Network Design Team.
*To provide tactical analysis of IND Network Design Performance, including intervention methodology and frequent process reviews, to ensure compliance with the regulatory contract and delivery of projects to SLA.
*Provide diverse design expertise across our IND Network Operations, Alliance Partner and AM&D Teams.
*Be responsible for the continual monitoring of set performance standards and customer requirements, and taking appropriate intervening actions to ensure they are met.
*To be responsible for the budget for both Opex and Capex, maximising opportunities to control costs and maintain effectiveness of our people, partners and performance. · Provide operational support to Network Services Manager and operational input to emergencies and incidents.
*Most importantly, the IND Network Design Manager will be highly customer focused and be seen as the champion of operational service delivery. · To be effective in liaising and communication with the wider Network, Alliance Partner and Asset Management Teams.
*Ensure that Alliance Partner and internal stakeholder relationships are maintained.
Technical Skills & Experience
*An effective communicator with proven track record of people management and leadership qualities.
*Should be accomplished in budget preparation and control.
*A wide range of communication skills are required to manage both internal and external relationships.
*There is a need for high quality analytical skills to be applied across a range of functions both for performance and budgetary analysis.
*Decision making and intervention will be required to ensure performance standards are met.
*A high competency level in motivation, coaching and counselling is required for effective people management.
*Ability to bring customer focus to the role.
*Awareness of wider business issues within United Utilities and externally is needed for the role.
*Knowledge of customer diversions process and associated service level agreements. Essential
