Job Description:
Head of Sales
£70,000-£80,000 + Bonus + Car
Newark, Nottinghamshire | Full-time, Permanent
There is a certain rhythm to this business... a long-established provider of specialist engineering/construction services provider working across the UK, known for strong operational teams, reliable delivery and a culture built on doing things properly. With solid operational teams and a turnover of roughly £7m, the foundations are solid. Now the business is ready to grow again, and they are looking for someone who can help guide that next stage.
This Head of Sales position sits right at the heart of that ambition. It is an opportunity to step into a role where you set the tone, shape the direction and build momentum. You will take an experienced sales team of four and help them spend more time in front of customers, more time opening doors and more time turning capability into opportunity.
Your leadership will bring clarity and confidence to a team that is ready to move.
The goal is clear. The business wants to grow from £7m to £10m within the next three to five years. That does not happen through chance. It happens through focus, targeted engagement and a deep understanding of the customers and sectors where the strongest opportunities sit. Much of the work is won through tender processes, so a key part of your role will be ensuring the company is in the conversation early, visible to the right organisations and positioned effectively before those tenders land.
You will also take ownership of how sales and marketing work together. External partners are already in place, and you will become the person who gives direction, shapes the story and ensures campaigns feel connected to the reality of customer needs. Your insight will help the business understand what is landing, what is converting and where to refine the approach.
Inside the business, you will work closely with the senior operational team. This is a company with a strong delivery reputation, and your job is to ensure sales activity aligns with what the operation does best. Growth must be sustainable, commercially sound and built on long term relationships. You will help keep that balance so that ambition and capability move in step.
This role suits someone who has already led at a senior sales level within construction, engineering or a related environment. You will be used to longer sales cycles, complex customers and discussions with senior decision-makers.
You will bring sound commercial judgement and a calm, structured approach to balancing opportunity with risk.
Just as important is your leadership style. You will be visible, supportive and hands on. You will coach, guide and encourage. You will bring consistency and structure without taking away the individuality or energy of the people you lead. You are the person who lifts standards simply by being present.
If you are ready to take ownership of a sales function at a key moment in its journey, and you want to help shape the future of a respected and people-focused business, I would love to talk to you. Get in touch with Will Taylor at Hays in Lincoln, and we can explore whether this feels like the right move for you.
