Job Description:
Head of School (Lower) + Designated Teacher
Location: Sevenoaks, Kent
Full-time | 37.5 hours per week | Term-time only (39 weeks per year)
Start Date: September (or as soon as possible thereafter)

We are seeking a Head of School (Lower) to lead a dedicated team supporting students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a pivotal role within the school’s leadership structure, reporting to the Deputy Principal and working closely with the wider Senior Management Team.
About the Role
As Head of School, you will:
*Lead and manage the Lower School provision, including a Deputy Head and tutor team.
*Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the safeguarding and wellbeing of all students.
*Promote a positive behavioural culture aligned with the school’s values of Respect, Relationships, Resilience, and Responsibility.
*Oversee pastoral care, tutor programmes, and student interventions.
*Collaborate with multi-agency teams, parents, and carers to support student progress.
*Contribute to whole-school initiatives, inspections, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage safeguarding referrals and act as DSL in their absence.
*Mentor and support staff through appraisals, coaching, and professional development.
*Lead assemblies, tutor sessions, and celebration events.
*Monitor and evaluate student behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing data.
*Support curriculum planning and bespoke timetables in collaboration with SENCO and teaching staff.

*Proven leadership experience in a pastoral or safeguarding role.
*Strong understanding of SEMH and trauma-informed practice.
*Excellent communication and team management skills.
