Principal EIA Consultant – Job Description
Salary:£45,000 – £65,000 (DOE)

Role Overview
The Principal EIA Consultant will lead the coordination and delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for major development and infrastructure projects. This senior role requires strong technical expertise, excellent project leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, planning authorities, and multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
EIA Leadership & Delivery
*Lead the full EIA process, including screening, scoping, environmental assessments, and Environmental Statement (ES) production.
*Coordinate technical inputs across environmental, design, and engineering disciplines.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
*Serve as a senior advisor to clients, offering strategic guidance on environmental risks, planning policy, and mitigation.
*Engage with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees, and key stakeholders to support planning applications.
Technical Excellence
*Produce and review high-quality ES chapters, scoping reports, technical assessments, and environmental risk documentation.
*Drive best practice and innovation in EIA methodology, tools, and digital approaches.
Team Leadership
*Mentor and supervise junior and mid-level consultants, ensuring high-quality outputs and skills development.
*Lead project teams, manage competing deadlines, and support resource planning.
Business Development
*Support and lead tenders, fee proposals, and client presentations.
*Develop and maintain client relationships, contributing to the growth of the environmental planning offering.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
*Extensive experience delivering EIAs for development or infrastructure projects in the UK.
*Strong understanding of UK EIA Regulations, planning policy, and environmental legislation.
*Chartered or working toward chartership (IEMA, RTPI, CIWEM, etc.).
Skills
*Excellent project management, communication, and coordination skills.
*Confident engaging with clients, LPAs, and specialist stakeholders.
*Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure.
