Job Title: Head of People
Location: Barnstaple
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000pa.
Contract: Permanent, full-time - Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00 or 09:00 to 17:00.

Job Description:
As the Head of People, you will be responsible for leading the HR strategy, shaping the people agenda, and ensuring that the business remains compliant while driving progressive people initiatives that support employee engagement, performance, and well-being. You will work closely with the senior management team to provide expert advice on a wide range of HR matters, including employee relations, talent management, and workforce planning.
Key Responsibilities:
*Develop and implement the HR strategy in line with the business goals and values.
*Lead and manage the HR team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and service delivery across all HR functions.
*Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, on-boarding, performance management, and professional development.
*Manage and resolve complex employee relations matters, providing coaching and support to line managers.
*Lead on the development and delivery of employee engagement and well being initiatives, creating a positive, inclusive work environment.
*Drive data-led HR decision-making by analysing key people metrics and using insights to inform HR strategy and priorities.
*Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, particularly in relation to safeguarding, recruitment, and employee benefits.
*Support senior leadership in developing talent management strategies, including succession planning and retention initiatives.
*Champion a culture of continuous professional development, identifying and promoting appropriate training opportunities for staff.
Required Skills & Experience:
*CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent.
*Significant experience in an HR leadership role, ideally within a regulated or complex environment.
*Proven experience of managing a HR team and driving results through effective leadership.
*In-depth knowledge of employment law, HR best practice, and the ability to handle complex HR casework.
*Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align HR initiatives with business objectives.
*Experience in workforce planning and talent management, with a focus on retention and employee development.
*Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
*Demonstrable experience in managing change and implementing HR initiatives that drive business success.
