We are seeking a Head of Carbon, Energy & Sustainability to provide strategic leadership across all aspects of energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability management. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Health, Safety and Environment, this pivotal role involves professional oversight and direction to develop strategies and governance in response to national, regional, and organisational priorities.

Day-to-Day of the Role:*Lead the development and implementation of the MPS Environment & Sustainability Strategy.
*Act as the principal contact for strategic carbon, environment, and sustainability issues with key external stakeholders including the GLA and national police bodies.
*Manage and lead a team of specialists in environment and sustainability, energy, and carbon management.
*Oversee the organisation’s utilities programme and associated budget management exceeding £20 million.
*Represent the MPS at key policy meetings and provide strategic input into various environmental initiatives.
*Ensure compliance with strategic governance and reporting requirements, acting as Secretariat to the Environment & Sustainability Board.
*Develop and maintain the organisation’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and Energy Management System (EnMS), aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 respectively.
*Coordinate and manage the delivery of the energy/carbon management programme and the broader environment and sustainability programme across the organisation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:*An academic degree and professional qualification relevant to energy, carbon, environment, and sustainability management, or equivalent experience.
*Extensive knowledge of the international and UK national agenda for sustainable development, including relevant policies and legislation.
*Proven experience in a strategic role, with the ability to engage and negotiate confidently with senior management and external stakeholders.
*Demonstrable experience leading an environment and sustainability team within a medium to large organisation.
*Strong project management skills, capable of managing complex projects and multiple work streams.
*Advanced IT skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
