Job Title: Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: Canterbury, Kent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: Full-time (including on-call responsibilities)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a Children’s Residential Home in Canterbury.
This is a key leadership role for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality, child-centred care and supporting staff teams to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
*Support the Registered Manager in the effective management of the home in line with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
*Lead, motivate, and support the staff team, promoting a positive and consistent culture of care
*Act as a positive role model and provide direct support to children and young people when required
*Contribute to staff supervision, appraisals, training, and development
*Ensure safeguarding practices are embedded and followed at all times
*Support the implementation and review of care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies
*Maintain high standards of record-keeping, reporting, and compliance
*Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, including on-call duties
*Work collaboratively with placing authorities, families, and external professionals
What We’re Looking For
*Significant experience working in a children’s residential setting
*Previous experience in a senior, team leader, or deputy role (essential)
*Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills
*In-depth knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, and Ofsted requirements
*A child-focused, trauma-informed approach to care
*Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
*Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (essential)
*Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (or working towards / willingness to enrol)
