Job Description:
This is a role for someone who likes proper accounting.
Not theory, not endless meetings, not ticking boxes for the sake of it. Just being hands on. You’ll be working with an established, multi-site UK business that’s still evolving and growing.
As an Assistant Accountant, you’ll be part of a busy finance team where accuracy matters, deadlines matter, and your work genuinely supports how the business runs. You’ll be trusted with responsibility early, exposed to a wide range of accounting activity, and supported by experienced Management Accountants and a Group Finance Manager who know their stuff.
If you want a role where you can develop real accounting skills in a complex, fast-moving environment, this is it.
The role
You’ll support the day-to-day running of the Finance function, ensuring financial data is accurate, timely, and reliable. This is a hands-on position with involvement across multiple areas of finance.
Your responsibilities will include (but won’t be limited to):
*Maintaining and updating cashflow forecasts
*Posting payments and receipts to the ledgers
*Supporting monthly close and opening of ledgers
*Completing bank reconciliations
*Assisting Management Accountants with month-end processes
*Calculating HP and interest, including journal postings
*Supporting sales ledger and purchase ledger activities
*Completing balance sheet reconciliations
*Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register
*Posting depreciation
*Processing prepayments and accruals
*Creating ad hoc and regular payment runs
This is not a narrow role; you’ll get broad exposure and plenty of opportunity to build confidence and capability.
What do you need?
You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you do need strong foundations.
*A good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
*Strong data entry accuracy
*Good Excel skills
*AAT Level 4 or significant Qualified by Experience
*Confident IT skills
*Clear written and verbal communication
*Highly organised with strong attention to detail
What’s on offer?
*An annual salary of up to £33k (depending on experience)
*25 days annual leave + BH’s + buy and sell options
*Flexible working options
*A varied, fast-paced role with real development opportunities
*Onsite gym
*Subsidised canteen
*Death in service benefit
*Staff discounts on refurbished IT and domestic appliances
