Job Description:
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 Months Initially (potential temp-to-perm)
Rate: Hourly, Inside IR35 (Umbrella)
Hybrid: 1 day per week onsite
A large public sector organisation is seeking a skilled Mechanical HVAC Engineer to support compliance, project delivery, and mechanical building services across the corporate estate. This role is key in ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient operation of buildings, with responsibilities spanning HVAC design, asset management, and statutory compliance.
Key Duties:
• Lead HVAC design, specification, and project delivery for council buildings (including heating, hot water, water hygiene tasks, AC and mechanical systems)
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance works, ensuring all systems meet the required standards and regulations
• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, including water hygiene, legionella control, and lift safety requirements
• Conduct site inspections, review test/commissioning certifications, and sign off works to required specifications
• Manage lift inspections, ensuring statutory examinations, record keeping, and safe operation
• Monitor contractor performance, resolve quality issues, and ensure projects meet specification, cost, and safety standards
• Support asset management by updating mechanical/HVAC data within council systems and contributing to ISO 55000-aligned processes
• Provide technical advice to stakeholders and support long-term maintenance strategy development
Requirements:
• Proven experience in HVAC engineering within building services, public sector, or similar environments
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services, compliance, and H&S legislation (including CDM, Water Hygiene, and statutory lift requirements)
• Ability to manage projects from design to completion, including budgeting, quality checks, and handover
• Knowledge of ISO 55000 asset management principles (desirable)
• Strong communication and coordination skills when working with contractors, consultants, and internal teams
