Job Description:
Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Highways Project Manager for our client a local government organisation in the Isle of Wight.
This successful candidate will support the Transport Strategy Manager in the development and delivery of a programme of local bus infrastructure schemes as part of the organisation’s allocation of the Department for Transport’s Bus Settlement Fund for 2025/26 onwards, with a value of circa £1.3m per annum for the term of the funding, based on the published organisation’s Bus Service Improvement and Delivery Plans.
This will include delivering and managing a portfolio of work packages, utilising robust project management approaches, engaging and managing multiple relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the local community and maintaining effective communication channels in support of the projects.
This role is a temporary contract initially for 6 months with the possibility to extend. This role is hybrid working.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
*Develop a programme of bus infrastructure improvements, in line with the conditions of the funding and based upon the aspirations of the published Bus Service Improvement Plan, as well as the draft Island Transport Plan.
*Include (but not limited to), bus shelters, hard standings, accessibility improvements, real-time information systems, lighting and CCTV.
*Work closely with the Transport Strategy Manager and Officer, on overall scope and approach, to ensure policy alignment, as well as assisting with establishing a local design standards.
*Lead on the procurement and commissioning of the associated external suppliers and/or delivery contractors. Working closely with the Engineering and Commercial teams within Highways and Transportation.
*Establish appropriate project governance and produce the clear and concise documentation for reporting into the relevant boards and committees, in line with the organisation’s Project Management Framework.
*Facilitate and support co-operative and partnership working with communities, partners and stakeholders.
*Ensure that all stakeholders are identified and managed effectively, ensuring that there is regular engagement with them.
*Make decisions on delivery; managing the risk to the council and providing guidance to key strategic decision-makers.
*Add value to projects and the wider corporate approach to Highways and Transportation.
*Oversee and direct projects from conception to completion, managing project plans, delivery and budgets.
*Be responsible for the quality assurance and overall integrity of projects and the overall programme.
*Ensure that schemes align with latest national design standards in respect of accessibility and safety. And where possible national best practice.
Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday - Friday
Pay: £49.33 per hour
