Job Description:
Publishing Rights Sales Lead
*Annual Salary: Competitive (with sales bonus)
*Location: Oxford (Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in office)
*Job Type: Full-time
*£40,000 - £45,000 base salary, with an additional circa £10,000 annual bonus
Join our dynamic team as a Publishing Rights Sales Lead, where you will drive and increase income from co-edition and subsidiary rights in line with our strategic financial targets. This role is pivotal in securing licensing deals across various territories, ensuring each agreement maximizes revenue and profitability while achieving year-on-year growth. You will also play a key role in shaping our overall Publishing Strategy, which covers areas such as co-edition, print, digital rights, and more.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Secure rights sales across all formats including print, digital, and other mediums, such as film & royalty deals, to meet annual financial targets
*Develop and manage territory strategies, build deep market knowledge, and foster strong customer relationships, including working with agents where appropriate
*Travel internationally for 6-8 weeks each year to meet existing and new customers and attend major book fairs to maximize rights opportunities
*Maintain comprehensive product knowledge to inform sales and commissioning decisions
*Ensure accurate processing of rights deals and collaborate with other internal departments to ensure smooth operations
*Contribute to revenue forecasting, monitor emerging rights trends, and delegate administrative tasks to assistants for efficiency
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Previous experience within a sales environment and thorough knowledge of publishing business models and processes - for co-edition and licensing
*Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to think creatively to optimize third-party partnerships across cultures and languages
*Willingness to travel to overseas book fairs and to visit customers at their offices, travelling alone or with the team as needed
*Strong commercial acumen, ability to understand all financial models pertaining to licensing and ability to work towards targets ensuring profitability of all deals
*Adaptable, with strong organisational and time management skills to manage busy workloads
*System knowledge - possess or have the ability to develop effective knowledge of all relevant systems in order to efficiently manage the life cycle of rights deals
*Desirable: Previous experience in digital licensing, fluency in French, knowledge of educational markets and trends, as well as Children’s IPs, and market research skills
