Director of Finance & Operations
Location: Buckinghamshire, Hybrid (2 days per week in office)
Salary: Circa £65,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

A national children’s charity is seeking a Director of Finance & Operations to join its Senior Leadership Team. This is a pivotal leadership role within a well-established organisation that provides specialist support to seriously ill children and their families across the UK.

This role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on operational oversight and is critical to enabling the charity to deliver its mission effectively and sustainably.

The Role
*Lead long-term financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
*Oversee accounting operations, including payroll, pensions, and month/year-end processes
*Prepare clear and accurate financial reports for senior leadership and trustees
*Manage cashflow, reserves, and investment relationships
*Ensure compliance with charity regulations, funder requirements, and accounting standards
*Lead the annual audit process and manage external auditor relationships
*Support fundraising colleagues with financial reporting and funding applications
*Oversee day-to-day operational systems and internal controls
*Lead development and continuous improvement of finance and operational policies
*Manage organisational risk, insurance, and regulatory compliance
*Oversee HR operations including payroll, benefits, and compliance with employment law
*Support workforce planning and organisational design
*Lead and develop finance and operations staff
*Advise trustees and senior colleagues on financial and operational implications of strategy

About You
You will bring significant experience in finance and operations leadership, ideally within the charity or nonprofit sector.

*Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a finance first approach
*Strong knowledge of charity finance, governance, and regulatory requirements
*Experience of budgeting, forecasting, fund accounting, and audit management
*Strategic thinking combined with operational delivery capability
*Strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial data for non-financial audiences
*Experience overseeing HR or administrative functions
*A collaborative and proactive leadership style
