Ecologist
*Annual Salary: £38,750
*Location: Bristol
*Job Type: Permanent, Hybrid (2 days in office)
Join a leading environmental consultancy as an Ecologist, engaging in diverse ecology, environmental, and infrastructure projects across the Midlands and West. This role offers significant opportunities for professional development in various ecological disciplines within a team of 35 specialists.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Fieldwork & Surveys: Conduct UKHab / Phase 1 habitat surveys, including condition assessments for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Support protected species surveys for species such as bats, great crested newt, and dormouse.
*Reporting & Assessment: Assist in producing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), baseline species reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and BNG assessments. Contribute to Habitats Regulations Assessments and Environmental Statement chapters.
*Analysis & Delivery: Input ecological data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and assist with data analysis. Contribute to BNG calculations and natural capital assessments. Collaborate with ecologists, planners, engineers, and environmental specialists on multi-disciplinary projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Degree in Ecology, Biology, Zoology, Geography, or a related field.
*1–3 years’ experience in ecological fieldwork, or equivalent graduate placement experience.
*Developing skills in habitat and protected species surveys.
*Basic understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
*Interest in developing skills in BNG, natural capital, and biodiversity strategy work.
*Proficiency in digital tools, including ArcGIS.
*Full UK driving licence.
*Must have the right to work in the UK.
